Story Time with Bethany Thomas
Story time, y’all. And grab a seat 'cause I’ve got some piping hot tea today.
So, you know me—I don’t do the mess. But this right here? This mess got everyone talking.

And by everyone, I mean the whole place, from the reception desk to the folks barely clocking hours in housekeeping. It's all about Sarrah and Rosa. Let me start from the top.
Now, Sarrah, she’s the type that’s dedicated. She's been an STNA for, oh, since she was seventeen. Got that long history, that “I’ve been doing this forever” confidence, and I swear, she knows every trick, every shortcut, every backdoor in nursing care. She’s got this genuine warmth, you know? Calls all her residents “honey” or “sweetheart” like it’s second nature. But here’s the thing: one day, she started eyeing the pockets of these places, whispering about how much these nursing homes make. All it took was one payday chat and Sarrah starts spinning schemes about opening her own business. Talking about "independence" and “getting what she’s owed.” Next thing I know, she's bringing up legal stuff, how you go about getting residents, contracts, licenses, all that.
And then—Lord help us—she gets a wild idea.
I remember the day she told me, “I think I know a way to, uh, streamline this whole process.” She even got Rosa in on it. Now, Rosa, she’s a RN, good-hearted, from Southern California with that laid-back Cali vibe, but she’s been here long enough to catch on to things real quick. They started talking about getting some residents to sign over power of attorney. Yes, honey, power of attorney.
It wasn’t long before Sarrah and Rosa had themselves a little setup. Only a few people knew, but the word slipped through the cracks—don’t it always? Sarrah would focus on the residents who were alone, the ones without family near or no family at all, bless their hearts. It was like she had this radar, zeroing in on the folks who'd maybe appreciate a little extra attention. Not that they knew the cost of it.
Weeks passed, and Sarrah got... weird. I don't mean just secretive or standoffish—no, she got downright strange. She’d be pacing around the halls, talking low like she was in a movie or something, plotting. And the residents? They all just went along with it, thinking she was just being her regular ol' caring self.
Her friends? Hmph. We all started noticing something wasn’t right. Her boyfriend called me one day, asking if I knew what was up. Said Sarrah’d been shutting herself off, mumbling nonsense about “payback” and “getting what’s hers.” He didn’t know what she meant by it, and neither did I, at the time.
Then came the day we learned the truth. And, honey, it wasn’t what anyone expected.
Turns out, Sarrah’s little obsession was less about business and more about, well, revenge. See, somewhere along the way, she’d convinced herself that these folks—her own residents, mind you—had wronged her in some other life. Maybe even in this one; I don’t know. All I know is she had it in her head that every single one of them had something coming to them, and she was the one who’d make sure they got it.
Now, let me tell you how it all went down.
One morning, right before breakfast, Vince Moss, our big man in administration, called an urgent meeting. Didn’t give us any real details, just told us point blank, “Nobody checks out those four residents today.” Now, that was weird as it was, but the way he looked, sweating and fidgeting, had everyone buzzing. No one knew why we couldn’t discharge them, but we sure didn’t try to cross Vince either.
Then, just after noon, in strolls Sarrah. And she’s not alone—she's got the police with her. The whole place fell to dead silence as those officers led her, Rosa, and four of her chosen residents right out the front door.
Word spread quick: some legal mess was coming down on Vince, on Sarrah, and even Rosa. Apparently, somebody finally reported them, and corporate came down like rain on that admin department, cleaned house like nobody’s business. Vince got canned right then and there, and there was talk of charges being filed. Sarrah and Rosa? Hauled off, and we haven’t seen 'em since. I heard they’re making new policies now, some retraining to make sure this kind of scandal doesn’t happen again.
So, yeah, story time was a bit wild today. Moral of the story? You think you know folks, but you really don’t.
